Tottenham Hotspur are said to be keen to sign Emi Martinez from Aston Villa, by the Independent.
Martinez to Tottenham?
The report claims that Tottenham see Martinez as a potential successor to Hugo Lloris, who will need replacing sooner rather than later.
Lloris is now at the age of 35 and while his form continues to be strong there is a realisation around Tottenham that they will need to start planning for the future.
Spurs have already brought in Pierluigi Gollini on loan, but now are said to be taking a long look at Martinez at Villa.
Martinez, who was once described as ‘world-class’ by Arsene Wenger (Metro), has become one of the most highly regarded stoppers in the whole of the Premier League since his move to Villa from Arsenal.
An unlikely deal?
Those Gunners allegiances may make any transfer questionable, regardless of his undoubted quality.

It was only two years ago that Martinez was joining in with Arsenal chants insulting Tottenham.
Martinez was asked what he thinks of Tottenham, to which he gave Arsenal supporters’ usual response (video contains swearing).
That video may put the 29-year-old’s potential move to Spurs into some doubt, and Villa’s reluctance to lose him also surely will.
Martinez’s value has risen significantly at Villa and it would be a surprise if Tottenham were to meet their asking price for him any time soon, given that it would likely be extremely high.
