On Thursday, October 28, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the rebranding of the parent company to the name Meta, and the news has already turned into a meme.
From the looks of it, the announcement did not go as Mark must have planned. If comments on social media are anything to go by, the name change has not been welcomed by internet users.
Folks on the internet did not shy away from making memes as Facebook announced that they’re changing their name to Meta.

Mark Zuckerberg unveils new company name and vision
According to the Facebook CEO, the brand will retain the name of a popular social media site Facebook. However, the company, Facebook Inc, will be renamed as Meta.
Facebook Inc is the parent company of platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp. What struck many about the company’s rebranding is that it wasn’t marketed as a new beginning.
Mark described it as ‘the next chapter of social connection.’ The tweet announcing the new name said, ‘Meta is helping build the metaverse, a place where we’ll play and connect in 3D.’
“I’ve been thinking a lot about our identity with this new chapter”, Mark said during the virtual event on Thursday, “Over time, I hope we’re seen as a metaverse company.”
The term ‘metaverse’ has become the tech industry’s latest buzzword. It indicates embracing futuristic ideas in the social networking space.
In simple words, the metaverse is a “virtual environment” that a user can go inside of, rather than just looking at it, via a screen. It is a world of endless and deeply connected virtual communities where people can meet, work and play with each other with help of virtual reality headsets. Augmented reality glasses and other devices will also be used.
Metaverse is an evolution of social connections.
