Netflix has just premiered the official trailer for upcoming superhero film ‘Minnal Murali’, but what date will it release worldwide and in which languages?

As we move towards the conclusion of 2021, there are countless big-budget movies and television series that are preparing to stream exclusively on Netflix.

However, one of the most highly anticipated upcoming titles for the streaming giant is the Indian superhero flick, Minnal Murali.

Today, October 28th, Netflix released the official trailer and in just a few hours, has been viewed more than 3 million times!

Here, we breakdown everything you need to know about Minnal murali, including plot, release date, dubbing, cast, production and of course, that epic new trailer!

What is Minnal Murali?

Minnal Murali is an upcoming Indian superhero movie that tells the story of Jaison, a man who acquires superpowers after being struck by lightning.

“A tailor gains special powers after being struck by lightning, but must take down an unexpected for if he is to become the supero his hometown needs.” – Minnal Murali, via Netflix.

The movie is directed by Basil Joseph (2017’s Godha) and producer by Sophia Paul from Weekend Blockbusters production company (2014’s Bangalore Days).

Aside from that brief synopsis from Netflix, very little information on the plot for Minnal Murali has been shared online, with most of the discussions centring around the film’s hyped release.

Minnal Murali: Netflix release date confirmed…

Minnal Murali was originally set to premiere in theatres back in 2020, but like countless cinema projects from around the world, had to be delayed because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

On September 6th, it was revealed that the movie would skip its theatrical debut and launch worldwide via the Netflix streaming service.

On September 23rd, Netflix India South officially confirmed through their Twitter page that Minnal Murali’s release date had been set for December 24th, 2021.

“Today we’re playing Santa and bringing you your Christmas gift early. Minnal Murali arrives on 24th December! Ee Christmas minnum.” – Netflix India, via Twitter.

International dubbing…

Alongside the official teaser trailer for Minnal Murali, Netflix confirmed that the movie would be dubbed in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and English.

It is assumed that both the subbed and dubbed versions for these languages will be released alongside the Minnal Murali launch on December 24th.

Meet the cast…

The leading actor in Minnal Murali will be none other than Tovino Thomas, the popular actor and model from Thrissur, Kerela.

Thomas was originally a software engineer with Cognizant Technologies before making his acting debut in 2012 with Prabhuvinte Makkal.

The 32-year-old would then go on to appear in a variety of big-screen projects, including Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015), Mayaanadhi (2017), Maradona (2018), Maari 2 (2018) and Luca (2019).

Incredibly, Thomas has one of the most remarkable upcoming credits that I have seen in a long time, with a total of 11 projects either being announced or in post-production!

Other cast members include:

  • Tovino Thomas as Jaison / Minnal Murali
  • Guru Somasundaram as Selvan / Vellidi Venkiti

Vandalism on set…

Until the recent Netflix trailer, the most talked-about aspect of Minnal Murali’s production was the vandalism to a temporary church that was built as part of the set for around ₹50 lakh ($68,000).

Several activist groups claimed responsibility for the vandalism on social media, with six men being arrested and levied with sections including robbery and seeking to create communal disharmony.

It might be a joke, troll, publicity, or politics for some people. It was like a dream for us. Just before the lockdown the set was erected. We had been working to release the film for two years. For many days the art director and team struggled under the hot sun to construct the set, for which the producer’s hard-earned money was spent.” – Basil Joseph, via The Quint.

This article will be updated as soon as more information on Minnal Murali’s release through Netflix is revealed.
