According to Dutch reporter Valentijn Driessen, Marc Overmars would accept an offer from Newcastle if one were to arrive.
What’s the story?
Well, this is quite a big development for Newcastle, if true that is.
Driessen believes Overmars would jump at the chance to become Director of Football at St James’ Park.
However, the reporter said that it must happen in January, so the 48-year-old has enough time to plan for the summer window.
As quoted by Voetbal Primeur, Driessen said: “Overmars will go, I think. If he gets the chance, he goes. Overmars has to start in January or February, because he has to put together the squad for the new season. And his successor must do that for Ajax.”
The Dutchman makes a good point when considering who will replace Overmars.
Of course, losing their Sporting Director will throw a spanner in the works for Ajax, so whoever succeeds him must also have enough time to plan.
Marc Overmars would be superb for Newcastle

Newcastle need a strategist to oversee the expected overhaul on Tyneside, and Overmars seems like the ideal fit.
The ex-Arsenal wizard has raised over £550m in player sales, which is absolutely incredible, and all whilst keeping Ajax competitive.
Overmars was responsible for finding Frenkie de Long, Matthijs de Ligt and others for bargain fees, before selling them for monumental sums.

Interestingly, the Mirror believe that talks are underway between Newcastle and Overmars, who expects a £2.5m-a-year salary.
That is spare change for the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, so we can’t foresee any issues with that request.
All that’s left for PIF and Amanda Staveley to do is make Overmars an acceptable offer, which he’ll jump at if Driessen is to be believed.
