Liverpool fans have been left shocked after Pep Lijnders stated yesterday that Divock Origi is one of the best finishers in the world.
World-class finisher?
Origi has barely featured for Liverpool this term, but looks set to start tonight against Preston North End in the League Cup.
It’s fair to say that the Belgian International will be playing with a point to prove, due to his limited game time.
But Liverpool assistant manager, Lijnders, seems to have full faith in his striker’s ability.
“Divock is one of the world’s best finishers – and we’ve worked with quite a few, at different clubs,” he said, to the Liverpool Echo.
“He’s an absolute world-class finisher, it’s just to get him in these positions, of course.”
Those comments have stunned many Liverpool fans, who feel that they may be exaggerated.
While there is an acceptance that Origi is actually a solid finisher, when presented with opportunities, most Reds fans don’t feel that he can legitimately be described as one of the world’s best.
Big chance incoming
Origi did at least score on his last outing in the League Cup for Liverpool, as they strolled to victory over Norwich City.
His finish stats are also very impressive – he has netted 15 goals in a period of time where he has only missed five big chances, according to OPTA.
The Reds go into tonight’s tie as heavy favourites against a Preston side who have struggled in the Championship this campaign.
And it could, therefore, be a good chance for Origi to showcase his finishing ability once again.
