There were suggestions that Arsenal could possibly make a move for David Raya during one of the 2022 transfer windows.

But that won’t be possible now because the Brentford keeper is set to face up to five months on the sidelines.

The Athletic report that Raya injured his knee during Brentford’s 2-0 defeat to Leicester at the weekend – and he is now facing a long period of time in the treatment room.

The Daily Mail claim that there could be changes to Arsenal’s goalkeeping department in 2022.

Bernd Leno, who is now number two behind Aaron Ramsdale at the Emirates, has a contract that expires next summer and it seems as though he is going to leave.

It seems as though, if that does happen, then Raya, who has been a long-standing target for the Gunners, was going to be targetted once again.

But for the Spaniard, it’s all about trying to get back out on the field, because he might even struggle to return towards the back end of this season if his recovery isn’t as smooth as he would like it to be.

Understandably so, Brentford fans are gutted at the news because Raya has been a key figure in their strong start to the campaign.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently labelled the play as ‘incredible’, after his performance during Brentford’s 3-3 draw with the flying Reds in September, as he told BBC Sport.

For Arsenal, if Leno opts for game time elsewhere in January, then Raya clearly won’t be available to them.

So, it’s going to be interesting to see what road the North London club go down.
