Tottenham Hotspur are still considering a transfer for Zeki Celik, as per TuttoMercatoWEB, a year after the Lille right-back claimed he was aware of the north Londoner’s interest.
Spurs admire what Celik could offer in the Premier League as his stock continually grows in Ligue 1. The Turkey international is among the best in his position in France’s top-flight and continues to shine, despite Les Dogues producing an underwhelming title defence so far.
Celik featured 29 times, scored three goals and assisted three as Lille won the league last season. He has already featured nine times this term, but the Stade Pierre Mauroy outfit only sit 10th in the table. Winning just four of their 11 fixtures under Jocelyn Gourvennec.

Celik’s efforts at right-back have kept Tottenham and a host of suitors on alert, despite Lille struggling for consistent results. Spurs have not wavered from their admiration of the 24-year-old, but could now face competition from Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina.
Atleti are weighing up signing Celik to move on from Sime Vrsaljko and former Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier next year. Fiorentina, meanwhile, like the 27-cap international as they will need a new full-back soon with Alvaro Odriozola only on loan from Real Madrid.
Inter may also revive their interest in Celik, who remains under contract in northern France until 2023. The Nerazzurri explored his situation this summer before signing Denzel Dumfries, but the Dutchman has not enjoyed a great start.
Tottenham to finally sign long-term target Celik from Lille?
Reports by the Evening Standard claimed Lille wanted £13m to sell Celik this summer amid interest from Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United. The Gunners admired his skill in possession and attacking threat, while being strong in the press and winning possession.

Additionally, L’Equipe cited Tottenham as a potential destination for Celik should he leave Lille in the last summer transfer window. While Spurs have held a long-standing interest in the full-back, and seemingly remain keen despite Emerson Royal’s €25m (£21m) arrival.
Celik told So Foot last November that he was aware Tottenham explored a transfer during the 2020 summer market. The Telegraph noted the Turkey star was one of Jose Mourinho’s top targets before signing Matt Doherty for £15m.
“I heard that there was interest from Tottenham, but I don’t know if they made an offer,” Celik said. “In any case, I know that the Premier League is a league that I am attracted to. But I am happy to have stayed here when you look at the start to the season we have had.”
