Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is growing ‘increasingly concerned’ about his future at Anfield and his role in England’s World Cup plans for 2022.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Gomez is ‘agitated’ by his lack of playing time this season.

Gomez is understood to have communicated ‘strong feelings’ to boss Jurgen Klopp, something he did once before in 2019 when out of the team.

Gomez doesn’t want to be sat around on the sidelines at Liverpool, fearing that he won’t be in England’s World Cup 2022 squad.

England do have a host of centre backs in the mix already.

Harry Maguire, John Stones, Tyrone Mings, Conor Coady and Ben White all went to Euro 2020, whilst Fikayo Tomori, Ezri Konsa and Ben Godfrey could be in contention too.

Gomez quite simply can’t afford to be a forgotten man at Liverpool, and it’s claimed that he would consider leaving if he still isn’t playing regularly come early 2022.

Gomez now fourth choice at Liverpool

This report comes just after Gomez’s role as fourth-choice Liverpool centre back was all but confirmed.

Joel Matip dropped out of the Liverpool XI to face Manchester United. Instead of Gomez coming in, summer signing Ibrahima Konate started.

That decision seems to have sparked more concern from Gomez, who hasn’t started a league game this season.

Klopp called the 24-year-old ‘exceptional’ earlier this month, but that can only mean so much to Gomez whilst he’s not playing.

Gomez needs games, and with Konate ahead of him in the pecking order now, it’s hard to see how he gets back in at Liverpool.
