Fans of the Atlanta Braves are getting excited ahead of the World Series , but just how many times have they won it, and did they win it when based outside Atlanta?

Atlanta Braves to play in 10th World Series

For the first time since 1999, the Braves franchise will be in the MLB post-season.

Representing the National League, the Braves will play the Houston Astros of the American League.

It is the first time the two will have met in the World Series.

The Astros appearance this time around will be their fourth since 2005.

They have one win.

In comparison, the 2021 World Series will be the 10th time the Braves franchise has appeared in the end of season fun.

The best-of-seven series gets underway on October 26th, with the seventh game, if required due to take place on November 3rd.

Have the Braves won the World Series?

Throughout its long history, the Braves franchise has claimed three World Series successes.

The first, back when they were based in Boston, came in their very first appearance in the World Series.

That came in 1914, against the Philadelphia Athletics – 4-0 the final score.

The franchise would not be in the post-season again until after the Second World War.

A switch to Milwaukee took the franchise back to the World Series in 1948, but defeat came at the bats of the Cleveland Indians.

Come 1957, a second World Series was secured – the New York Yankees the vanquished.

However, just a year later, the Yankees got their revenge.

Another relocation was in the offing as the Braves picked up their balls and mits and took them to Georgia.

1990s high point for the Braves

There were just nine World Series played in the 1990s – thanks to the 1994 Players’ strike.

The franchise now known as the Atlanta Braves played in five of them.

And lost four.

The Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Yankees x2 all denied Atlanta from adding to its haul.

The exception was the Indians in 1995.

Bobby Cox’s side won 4-2 to clinch their third World Series as the Braves.

It makes the franchise the only one to have won the World Series in three home cities.
