13 witty Gunther FRIENDS quotes

Let’s be real, Gunther was just as hilarious as the six ‘friends’. From smart one-liners to under-the-breath comments, the 90s sitcom star had us in tears – for the right reasons!

Let’s take a look back at every time James Michael Tyler had us on the floor laughing with these quotes.

“I thought you were Chandler.”

When Joey bursts through the doors of Central Perk asking for Chandler, Gunther hilariously replies, “I thought you were Chandler.”

We all know that he only really pays special attention to Rach.

“Is this some kind of snake, or something?”

Remember when Rachel bought that hairless cat? Well, in true Gunther fashion, the barista saves the day and offers to take it off her hands… but it seems as though he’s not too keen either!

“I love Rachel. I wish she was my wife.”

Whilst Rachel is toying with an on-again-off-again fling with Ross, Gunther is head over heels for her.

“I’m sorry. Was I not supposed to?”

Throwback to the whole ‘we were on a break’ thing. Ross asks Gunther not to tell Rachel about the girl from the copy place, but the damage was already done.

“I used to be Bryce on All My Children.”

During a conversation with Joey about acting, Gunther says: “That sucks. I was buried in an avalanche.”

“Oh, I’m just making a list of birthdays.”

In love with Rachel, Gunther asks for her birthday and plays it off by saying he’s making a list of birthdays. When Ross chimes in, Gunther dismisses him with “yeah, whatever.”

“I know you’re leaving tonight, but I just have to tell you. I love you. Now, I don’t know if that changes your plans at all, but I thought you should know.”

Towards the end of the series, Gunther finally admits how he feels about Rachel – to her face. Of course, we all know who she ends up with. She got off the plane!

“I’ll take it all.”

When Monica is getting rid of a bunch of Rachel’s items, Gunther is first in line.

“Oh, like you don’t already have everything.”

Whilst dating Rachel, Ross asks Gunther for a napkin and, needless to say, the barista isn’t too happy about it.

“Say, Rachel l was wondering if you’d go to a movie with me sometime … as my lover. Too out there. Maybe you’d like to get something to eat with me sometime … as my lover.”

Gunther’s inner monologue is pure comedic gold.

“Yeah. That’s what I drive. I make 4 bucks an hour. I have saved up for 350 years.”

When Joey asks if Gunther drives a Porsche, he snaps back with sarcasm.

“Oh. I was going to offer you my apartment.”

Rachel is actively searching for a place to live when Gunther says he was going to offer her his apartment. When she asks why, he replies, “I don’t know.”

“You idiot!”

Remember when Rachel asked Joshua to marry her and he rejected her offer? Gunther yells “you idiot” in the background.

R.I.P James Michael Tyler.
