Mohamed Salah’s hat-trick against Manchester United saw the Liverpool star shatter Didier Drogba’s record as the highest-scoring African in Premier League history.

As posted by OptaJoe on Twitter, the Egyptian international now sits alone at the top of the scoring charts for African players in the Premier League. Drogba held the record for over six years, until Salah arrived at Liverpool in 2017 for £34m.

Since then, the attacker has been on a goal-scoring frenzy. Salah broke the single-season Premier League scoring record with 32 in his debut year with the Reds.

And this campaign could well see Salah further his tally from Drogba. After nine league games, the 29-year-old is already on ten goals for the season. And it was fitting that the Liverpool star would break the record at Old Trafford.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp’s side put on a performance that will live on in Liverpool folklore for decades to come. It was one of the largest wins over their Manchester rivals in club history.

And for Salah, the match will always be remembered for being the stage of where he made Premier League history and broke Drogba’s record as the highest-scoring African in the division.
