Mohamed Salah then took centre stage, bagging a hat-trick to leave United absolutely humiliated.
Even when United did put the ball in the Liverpool net, it was ruled out by VAR. Quite simply, this was Liverpool’s day.
Liverpool will be delighted with the clean sheet, especially having brought Ibrahima Konate into the side.
Jurgen Klopp took something of a gamble by putting Konate in, but he more than impressed for the Reds.

This was just the Frenchman’s second Premier League start since arriving from RB Leipzig over the summer.
Jurgen Klopp put his trust in Konate, and he certainly repaid him.
Konate was outstanding throughout, and had a chance to show off his blazing pace whilst chasing down Diogo Dalot in the second half.
Liverpool fans spotted that moment and raved about Konate’s ‘blistering’ speed on Twitter.
Some though Konate’s pace was ‘unreal’ and ‘crazy’ against Dalot, all flocking to praise him.
Others were surprised that Konate had that kind of pace in his locker, branding his speed ‘frightening’.
