Harry Kane has been speaking up about the importance of Tottenham’s League Cup clash against Burnley this week. And Spurs fans on social media are not pleased.

Speaking to the club’s official Twitter account, the England international stressed how the north London side want to go far in the competition after 13 years without any form of silverware.

Spurs last won the competition in 2008. The last time the Premier League giants have won anything of note. And this week will see Nuno Espirito Santo’s side face off against Burnley at home in the tournament.

With Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea still in the League Cup, Tottenham have their work cut out if they’re to secure silverware in the tournament this season.

And Kane believes that Wednesday night’s clash against Burnley will be a key clash. Tottenham lost on Sunday to West Ham, so a result in the League Cup could be what’s needed to renew confidence around the club.

Kane said when asked about this week’s League Cup clash against Burnley: “Make no mistake about it, the Burnley game is crucial and it’s a competition that we want to go as far as possible in.”
