Jurgen Klopp has lavished praise on Liverpool hitman Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool hammered Manchester United 5-0 at Old Trafford this evening.

And having scored a hat-trick, Mohamed Salah will dominate the post-match headlines after taking his total for the season to 15 goals.

Firmino was something of an unsung hero for the Reds tonight and he didn’t get among the goals, even though Diogo Jota was another who did.

But Klopp has gushed over the Brazilian attacker, claiming it is ‘insane’ how good his understanding of the false nine role is, saying people will write books about him one day.

He told a post-match press conference: “Firmino was outstanding. For people with football knowledge, people will write books about how he interprets the false 9. We don’t say he invented it but it looks like that at times. It was insane.”

Exceptional

He really is an exceptional talent and although he wasn’t among the goals, he was heavily involved in most of what Liverpool did in an attacking sense.

Even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed before the game that he was a ‘big admirer’ and performances like this illustrate why.

When Firmino isn’t scoring, he’s still constantly busy looking for space and pockets to play the ball into for Jota, Salah or Sadio Mane, who was benched by Klopp today.

Jota arrived at Anfield in 2020 and it was former Hoffenheim star Firmino – signed by Brendan Rodgers in 2015 – who dropped out of the German’s first XI for a while.

But when he’s in this sort of form, he’s simply undroppable and if Liverpool are going to win the Premier League title again come May, Firmino’s going to have a huge role in it.
