Everton were leading 2-1 against Watford with just 20 minutes to play, with their eventual 5-2 defeat leaving Tim Cahill absolutely baffled.

The Toffees had twice taken the lead through Tom Davies and Richarlison, but it all went wrong in the final 20 minutes.

Juraj Kucka’s equaliser sent Everton into a spiral, quickly conceding again to Josh King.

King added another for his hat-trick before Emmanuel Dennis completed a bonkers comeback.

Everton were bad enough against West Ham last week, but conceding four in the final 20 minutes against a Watford side who lost 5-0 to Liverpool last weekend?

Cahill – who spent eight years at Everton – won’t have seen many collapses like that under David Moyes.

The Australian stated that he doesn’t mind losing at times, but that throwing in the towel – like Everton seemingly did – was unacceptable.

Cahill likely echoed how many Everton fans feel right now, and Benitez needs to come up with a big response to get supporters back on side.
