Newcastle United are interested in raiding Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of centre back Conor Coady following their takeover.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Coady is wanted at Newcastle by Frank McParland.

McParland is working closely with Newcastle’s new owners and is allegedly keen to bring Coady over to St James’ Park.

McParland worked with Coady in the Liverpool youth setup and now wants a reunion in the North East.

Wolves would allegedly demand at least £20million for Coady and are reluctant to lose him to a Premier League rival.

Newcastle want leadership at the back to start this new era, and Coady is seen as the perfect player to bring that.

Newcastle target Coady has been hailed at Wolves

Having been a rather unconvincing midfielder after signing from Huddersfield Town in 2015, Coady has become a reliable centre back with Wolves.

The 28-year-old now has more than 100 Premier League appearances to his name as well as seven England caps.

Many have hailed Cody in recent times, with Liverpool scout Ian Barrigan branding him an ‘unbelievable character’ last year.

Jamie Carragher has even branded Coady a ‘manager’s dream’, praising his mentality as well as being ‘one of the nicest lads’ around.

That kind of energy is what Newcastle need right now, and Coady would make sense as a signing – even if he isn’t a huge name.
