Kiko Casilla has been speaking to Mundo Deportivo about his time at Leeds, and he’s admitted it will be ‘difficult’ to see out the last year of his contract.

What’s the story?

Well, the £32,115-a-week man joined Elche on a season-long loan from Leeds back in July, and he seems to be doing well.

Since leaving Leeds, Casilla has kept three clean sheets in nine La Liga appearances, conceding ten goals along the way.

However, it sounds like he doesn’t want to return to Elland Road.

Casilla told Mundo Deportivo: “It will be difficult for me to fulfil the year I have left. When I left there it was because of that, because my time there is over. I think I will not have problems with the club because they behaved very well with me because I asked to leave and they never put any impediment on me, but they gave me all the facilities and that is appreciated.

“When you have a bad time there, I have been through it a lot and that is clear, in the end what you want is to leave and I have been able to leave.”

Clearly, the 1-cap Spain international is not happy at Leeds.

Leeds should terminate Kiko Casilla deal

In our view, seeing as he’s basically said he doesn’t want to see out the final year of his deal, Leeds should terminate Casilla’s contract.

The 35-year-old is clearly unhappy, and Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t exactly need him at Elland Road.

Leeds have the reliable Illan Meslier, as well as the 20-year-old Kristoffer Klaesson who was signed back in July.

Even when Casilla has played for Leeds, he’s looked shaky, so it’s best if Leeds and Victor Orta cut their losses and terminate his contract.

Bielsa would also risk the morale of his squad if he allowed an unsettled Casilla to mope around Thorp Arch for the 2022/23 campaign.

After 62 appearances for the Whites, it should be game over for Casilla.
