Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Liverpool and Mohamed Salah on the Here We Go podcast, where he shared an intriguing bit of information.

What’s the story?

Well, the reliable Italian journalist believes that Liverpool are so keen to get Salah to sign a new contract, they’re prioritising it above new signings.

Romano said: “Liverpool are really focusing on Salah. They want Salah to sign a new deal – more than signing new players. They want Salah to sign a new deal before they try to sign new players in January or next summer.”

That is fairly big news.

On the basis of that information, you could argue there’d be some concerns about Salah’s future if Liverpool made a new signing before he renewed.

If that happened, it could suggest Liverpool have accepted defeat, and have moved on to strengthening Jürgen Klopp’s squad.

The 71-cap Egypt international’s contract expires in June 2023, and it would be very risky to allow him to enter the final year of his deal.

If the Reds did that, there’s a chance Salah could leave for nothing in 2023.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah stance is a dangerous one

If Romano’s update is true, then it is a dangerous stance from Liverpool.

Putting Salah’s new contract above new signings on the list of priorities could result in Liverpool losing ground in the transfer market.

For example, if the Reds spend all their time on Salah before making new signings, only for him to reject a new contract, they risk other clubs stealing their targets.

It’s a dangerous game to play, and hopefully, Salah signs a new deal sooner rather than later so Klopp doesn’t have to partake in it for too long.

Having said that, they are right to prioritise the contract, as no signing on the planet is going to replicate what the 29-year-old brings to Liverpool.
