Newcastle United are ready to pay Paulo Fonseca around £6million-a-year to become their new manager after he impressed in talks with the club.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that Fonseca has held talks with Newcastle ahead of potentially replacing Steve Bruce.
Amanda Staveley was present for those talks and is understood to have been very impressed with Fonseca.
Fonseca is understood to have explained his football philosophy to Newcastle, which is mostly based around attacking play.
The Portuguese boss impressed in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk, winning three titles with an attractive brand of football.
After paying Steve Bruce £8million just to leave Newcastle this week, the Magpies could now fork out £6million-a-year to secure Fonseca.
Bruce allegedly earned £2.75million-a-year, with Fonseca now in line to earn more than twice that at Newcastle.
Fabrizio Romano has added that Fonseca is ready to accept the Newcastle job, but other candidates are being considered too.
Fonseca faces big Newcastle challenge
Fonseca would love to bring that attacking play to Newcastle immediately, but that may not be possible.

Newcastle are in a fight against relegation. That’s the reality of things, even with a huge takeover now secured.
Fonseca currently does’t have the defenders to play with such an expansive system.
Playing so open could leave Newcastle even more exposed at the back, with their defending hardly impressive so far this season anyway.
Long term, this could be a hugely exciting move from Newcastle. There may be fears in the short term, but Fonseca is an impressive coach who deserves a Premier League chance.
