Harry Winks appears to have questioned Nuno Espirito Santo, after Tottenham suffered a 1-0 defeat in the UEFA Conference League.
What’s the story?
Well, Nuno left his entire starting XI from the 3-2 win over Newcastle in London, as a second-string Spurs side travelled to the Netherlands.
In doing so, Nuno risked the morale of those who travelled, and Winks has effectively come out and admitted it was a poor decision.
As quoted by the Evening Standard, the £50,000-a-week man said: “It is tough. We’re meant to be a team. It’s meant to be a competition. It’s meant to be competitive. Everybody should be fighting for weekend games and it’s difficult.”
We can’t disagree with a word Winks said.
Football is a team game, and even if Nuno wanted to rest those 11 players, it’s still vital that they’re involved in the dressing room at least.
In leaving them at home, Nuno is basically telling those who did travel that the fixture isn’t that important, in our view at least.
Does Harry Winks have a Tottenham future under Nuno?
The 25-year-old has been given just 61 minutes of action in the Premier League this season.
That isn’t enough time to make an impact, in our view.
However, in his two UEFA Conference League starts, Winks has had more time to impress, but has failed to deliver.
It comes amid major uncertainty over the England international’s future, as The Times are claiming that he wants to leave in January.
If he can’t impress against UEFA Conference League sides such as Vitesse Arnhem and Mura, it doesn’t bode well for his hopes of dazzling Nuno in the Premier League.
In our view, it’s game over for Winks at Spurs. He’s still just 25, and it’s time for him to resurrect his career elsewhere, in our view.
