Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are now facing competition from Barcelona for Kylian Mbappe, according to AS.

Liverpool interest

Journalist Ian McGarry reported on the Transfer Window Podcast in August 2021 that Liverpool plan to sign Mbappe on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

The 22-year-old France international forward is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season.

No new deal is in place at the moment.

So, Liverpool reportedly believe that they could bring the 2018 World Cup winner to Anfield on a free transfer next summer.

Described as “incredibly perfect” by PSG sporting director Leonardo in 90min this week, Mbappe would be a stunning signing for Liverpool.

There is no doubt about that.

Whatsoever.

Barcelona competition

However, Barcelona are now planning to make a move for Mbappe next summer.

AS are reporting that the La Liga giants believe that they will be better financially next summer.

So, according to the report in the Spanish publication, Barcelona plan to give Mbappe a signing-on fee of €90 million (£75.96m).

That does not include wages, by the way.

What should Liverpool do?

Now, paying a player €90 million (£75.96m) as a signing-on fee sounds excessive.

However, it is essentially ‘a cut-price transfer fee’.

Mbappe would cost much more if he were under contract at PSG, so €90 million (£75.96m) is not really much.

Relatively speaking.

If Liverpool are really keen on the striker, then they should match or better Barcelona’s offer.
