Reported Liverpool target Ansu Fati has said that he had proposals from the Premier League before signing a new long-term contract with FC Barcelona.

Speaking to the press via Fabrizio Romano after penning his new deal with the La Liga side, which includes a €1bn (£846m) release clause, the Spanish international revealed that he had offers from England over the summer.

Liverpool were one of the sides reportedly interested in Fati. According to ARA, the Reds even made an offer for the 18-year-old winger. However, these efforts were dismissed by Barcelona.

Indeed, the youngster is one of the most talented teenagers in Europe. Moreover, given Barcelona’s financial situation, the club could have been open to selling Fati in the summer transfer window.

Yet as Fati says, leaving Barcelona was never on the cards as the teenager this week signed a new six-year contract with the La Liga giants.

Fati said when asked if he had Premier League offers: “Yes, I’ve had offers from abroad, but my dream was to be here. From the first day I told Jorge Mendes that my first option was always to stay at Barça. He understood it perfectly and I am very happy that the club has trusted me.”

Barcelona might be at its lowest stage in some time. But there’s no denying that the club is bigger than just a football team in the city of Barcelona. And for a boyhood fan like Fati, signing a contract was always going to be the outcome.

Whilst Liverpool reportedly made a bid for the attacker, it always looked like Fati was going to remain with Barcelona and pen a new contract with the Catalan side. And with an £846m release clause now in his deal, the youngster won’t be leaving anytime soon.
