Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to share one major fear they have ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Manchester United.
What’s the story?
Well, after watching last night’s 3-2 win over Atalanta, some Liverpool fans noticed a feature of Manchester United’s game which could trouble them.
One fan pointed out that Marcus Rashford was being found time and time again with lofted passes over the top of the backline.
They added that it’s the exact type of pass which tends to catch out Liverpool, before a number of other fans commented in agreement.
It’s definitely something for Jürgen Klopp to be wary of.
In the German’s system, which sees Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson deployed high up the pitch, there are often gaps down the flanks.
As a result, Liverpool can be hurt out wide, as it results in Joel Matip or Virgil van Dijk coming out of the centre and leaving gaps.
How can Liverpool shut out Manchester United?
Of course, the Reds are overriding favourites for this game, but that doesn’t mean the Red Devils won’t cause them problems.
It would be foolish to ask Alexander-Arnold and Robertson to sit back, so how can Klopp deal with these balls over to Rashford?
If we were Klopp, we’d instruct Fabinho to form a back-three when the full-backs bomb forward, slotting in between Matip and Van Dijk.
That way, when they are pulled out wide, Fabinho will be there to cover the gaps while Liverpool wait for Alexander-Arnold and Robertson to get back.
For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about this feature of Manchester United’s game…
that ball they play to Rashford is the type of ball we allow to happen far too easily— Sean (@SeanDOlfc) October 20, 2021
Klopp will have them working on that in training leading up to the game. It's 100% going to be brought up in analysis.— MSC (@Kloppista_LFC) October 20, 2021
One of the back 4 pushing up last second thinking they’re playing rashford offside is so inevitable— CmLfc (@CmLfc1) October 20, 2021
Can see it now…. Firmino gives it away needlessly and Trent is up the field as a right winger, Rashford in the space left my Trent running at Matip!! It’s the stuff of nightmares— Daniel heselden (@DanielHeselden) October 21, 2021
Our high-line and TAA arctic adventures are our main weak points and every team nowadays plays on that. So annoying to watch being exposed and knowing that’s not gonna change we just get luckt— Roger (@RogerSmith_1947) October 20, 2021
