According to El Nacional, Carlo Ancelotti wants to take Sergio Reguilon away from Tottenham and bring him back to Real Madrid.
What’s the story?
Well, the Spanish news outlet claim Real Madrid President Florentino Perez believes it was a mistake to sell Reguilon to Spurs in the first place.
The £25m Tottenham man was not fancied by Zinedine Zidane, who sold him to José Mourinho back in September 2020.
Now, with Ancelotti at the helm and Real Madrid’s left-back department looking very weak, the Italian wants Reguilon back at the Santiago Bernabeu.
It seems like a simple deal for Los Blancos to complete.
El Nacional detail that Real Madrid have a €40m (£34m) buyback clause, which can be activated up until June 30th 2022.
Perez has agreed to sanction the deal, and crucially, Reguilon is said to have agreed on a return to the Spanish capital.
Tottenham know what they signed up for in Sergio Reguilon deal

If El Nacional‘s report is true, Tottenham shouldn’t be surprised.
They signed one of the best left-backs in Europe, and agreed to give the biggest club and one of the richest clubs on the planet a buyback clause.
In that respect, is it any shock to see Real Madrid activate that option when Reguilon has performed so well for Spurs?
It was always coming. In fact, The Times believe it was the buyback clause which actually put Manchester United off signing the defender.

In our view, this shouldn’t be an issue for Tottenham, as they should already have a replacement lined up.
If they don’t, it’s a bit embarrassing.
The first thing Fabio Paratici should’ve done after his appointment in the summer was draw up a list of left-back targets, as it’s the sensible thing to do while the buyback clause is yet to expire.
Keep an eye on this saga, as it’s certainly a very interesting situation.
