Tottenham Hotspur fans are becoming more and more disappointed that they didn’t appoint Erik ten Hag this summer, after seeing his Ajax side demolish Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last night.
Ten Hag impresses
Tottenham were heavily linked to Ten Hag as they searched for Jose Mourinho’s replacement, but they ultimately decided against appointing the Dutchman.
Spurs were apparently put off by Ten Hag’s basic grasp of English, as well as his desire to only bring in one staff member (Voetbal International).
However, his managerial talent was on full display last night as his Ajax side continued to impress.
The Dutch champions have taken maximum points from their first three Champions League games, and their 4-0 rout over Dortmund was their most impressive win to date.
While Nuno has earned some credit for helping Tottenham to back-to-back wins in the Premier League recently, after a mini-blip, there are many Spurs fans who feel that Ten Hag would have been the better appointment.
And there was widespread disappointment on social media that Ten Hag wasn’t the man Daniel Levy picked back in the summer now.
Turning round the doubters?
In fairness to Nuno, his Tottenham side currently sit just outside the top four.
But there is still a feeling that stylistically he may not be exactly what Spurs needed.
That being said, if results continue to be positive, a lot of the doubts around him are set to fall away.
Tottenham are next in action at the weekend, when they face West Ham United in what looks a tough test.
