It’s very much one step forward and two back for Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
Everytime that the Spaniard – who lost his first three games of the Premier League season – seems to have helped Arsenal turn a corner, there’s a dose of reality.
On Monday, the Gunners were seconds away from losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium but a last-gasp equaliser spared their blushes.
Even though Arsenal won a point, it felt like a loss to a lot of supporters and the 39-year-old is in the bad books among a lot of supporters again.
And it doesn’t help matters that Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba are dazzling away from North London.
Arteta loaned the pair to Marseille in Ligue 1 this past summer and both were named in the division’s Team of the Week on Wednesday.
Here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to that development:
Like him or hate him
Albert Sambi Lokonga made the mistake which led to Arsenal going 2-1 down against Patrick Vieira’s side, after Thomas Partey, another midfielder, was caught in possession for Palace’s first.
And although it’s a different league, it doesn’t reflect great on Arteta that Guendouzi – a midfielder – had scored twice for Marseille against Lorient 24 hours earlier, on the Sunday.
Like him or hate him, the 23-year-old is clearly a talent and the more Arsenal midfielders struggle, and he impresses, the worse it looks for the Gunners boss.
