According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are now ready to pounce on Marcelo Brozovic as his contract issues with Inter Milan continue.

What’s the story?

Well, the 68-cap Croatia international’s contract expires in June, and Inter Milan are struggling to agree a new deal with him.

As a result, Liverpool are ready to ‘seize’ the opportunity, as Calciomercato describe it.

It comes after Inter Live claimed the Reds were plotting a £115,000-a-week contract offer to sign Brozovic as a free agent in the summer.

The 28-year-old is a key player at the San Siro, and has made ten appearances for the Italian giants this season.

Brozovic also played a major role as Croatia reached the 2018 World Cup final in Russia.

In our view, he would add plenty of quality to Jürgen Klopp’s squad, and would also be a fine replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.

Recently, Klopp had a bit of a moan about Newcastle being taken over by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

In that respect, the German will surely be even more frustrated by the situation if the Magpies take Brozovic away from him.

According to Tuttosport, Newcastle and their newfound riches have entered the race for the Croatian.

In our view, Brozovic may be tempted by becoming part of the ambitious project on Tyneside, where he will surely be offered a handsome salary.

Liverpool are a huge club, although Fenway Sports Group (FSG) cannot compete with PIF, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Whatever the end result is, it’s certainly strange to live in a time where Newcastle can outdo Liverpool in a financial sense.
