BeHaviour Interactive has announced a Pinhead NFTs for Dead by Daylight and some DBD fans are confused about its meaning and what’s actually being sold.

The horror juggernaut is an insanely popular multiplayer title and fans have the release of Chapter 21.5 to anticipate. Not only that, but this week will also see the release of the developer’s own Halloween event for 2021.

While there’s plenty to look forward to in-game, lots of fans are not happy about BeHaviour Interactive’s recent promotion.

Dead by Daylight NFTs meaning

The meaning of NFTs for Dead by Daylight is non-fungible token items.

DBD has collaborated with Boss Protocol to adapt in-game models for release with Pinhead from Hellraiser and Chapter 21. Non-fungible means that it’s unique and cannot be replaced/traded, and the marketplace is usually made up of digital art.

The Verge also reports that non-fungible tokens are “partially responsible for the millions of tons of planet-heating carbon dioxide emissions generated by the cryptocurrencies used to buy and sell them”.

In short, lots of people don’t like NFTs because of how much energy sales use as well as because they’re pretty useless digital items.

DBD NFT Pinhead

Dead by Daylight and Boss Protocol have collaborated to sell a Pinhead NFT.

Boss Protocol’s website says that there is a Blockchain consisting of a limited 10,000 Pinheads from DBD. You will basically be buying the in-game model as well as some exclusive voice lines from Doug Bradley.

The FAQ says that it will not unlock any exclusive content for the game, so there’s really no reason to buy it. It is simply a unique digital collectable that will also later give you the Lament Configuration Box and the Chatterer as NFTs.

Why fans are unhappy

Some fans are unhappy because they bought the Chapter 21 DLC and were unaware that it was involved with NFTs. These people have claimed on Twitter that they never would’ve bought the DLC if they knew non-fungible tokens were planned.

Others are annoyed thinking it will grant people exclusive in-game content, but BeHaviour Interactive has clarified that this isn’t happening. Lots of people on Reddit are also saying that non-fungible tokens are scams and that the game’s reputation is sullied by association.

Although the collaboration isn’t ideal, the good news is that you can ignore the sale and know that no exclusive in-game content is included.
