Villarreal boss Unai Emery is willing to jump ship and become the next Newcastle United manager if they make a firm move for him.

That’s according to The Northern Echo, who claim that Emery would seemingly be keen on a move to St James’ Park.

It’s stated that current indications suggest that Emery would trade in Villarreal for Newcastle… though not for the weather, you would imagine.

Amanda Staveley and Jamie Reuben are thought to be strongly considering a move for Emery.

Noises in recent days have suggested that Newcastle’s new owners will focus on out-of-work managers to replace Steve Bruce.

Emery would cost compensation though, so it will be interesting to see if Newcastle cough up the cash.

Newcastle target Emery has unfinished business in England

The Spaniard took over Arsenal in 2018, but lasted just 18 months at the Emirates Stadium.

Emery won 43 of his 78 games in charge of Arsenal, but the start of the 2019-20 season was so bad that he had to go.

Emery was once hailed as a ‘genius’ by Ian Wright, but he couldn’t get his Arsenal side to click.

He does though have experience with a club after a big takeover, having taken charge of Paris Saint-Germain in 2016.

That may suggest that Emery can handle the expectations of this new Newcastle project.

A three-time Europa League winner with Sevilla, Emery’s record is better than many Arsenal fans would suggest – and Newcastle could give him the chance to show English fans that he really is a quality manager after all.
