Newcastle United are interested in signing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, according to AS (print edition, page 2, October 16, 2021).

What’s the story?

Since Newcastle were taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), they have been linked with a number of players.

Harry Kane, Philippe Coutinho and Mauro Icardi are among the big names who Newcastle are reportedly interested in.

And now Haaland has been linked with a move to Newcastle.

AS (print edition, page 2, October 16, 2021) have reported that Newcastle will try to bring the world-class striker to St. James’ Park.

It will not be easy, though.

Why?

Well, because Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain all are keen on the 21-year-old striker.

Could Newcastle really sign Haaland?

In our view, a transfer of Haaland to Newcastle will not happen.

Not in January or next summer.

We should not even talk about Dortmund selling one of their best players in the middle of the season.

Yes, Dortmund could sell the Norway international striker next summer, but we do not think that he will move to Newcastle.

The Magpies are just starting their project.

Although PIF have a lot of money, Haaland is likely to move to a club who are already winning major trophies.

What we can be sure of is that Haaland would be a great signing for any club.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk knows how tough it is to play against the youngster.

The Liverpool defender said about Haaland on Sky Sports this month, as transcribed by The Mirror: “Haaland is a special striker, because he’s so strong, he’s quick, he’s got all the attributes to make a defender’s life very difficult

“The first time [I played him] was when he came on at Anfield. He was at Salzburg and he got a tap-in and he scored.

“Obviously in the away game he didn’t. He got subbed after 65 minutes or something but it was a very tough one, he was very quick, aggressive, very direct.”
