Ange Postecoglou has voiced his glee that Kyogo Furuhashi and Tom Rogic avoided injury, and confirmed both are fit for Celtic’s trip to Motherwell on Saturday, via The Scottish Sun.
The Bhoys boss watched Furuhashi’s Japan face Rogic’s Australia in a World Cup qualifier fearing either would develop any issues. Furuhashi missed five of Celtic’s fixtures following the last international break, after returning to Glasgow with a knee injury.
Postecoglou welcomed Furuhashi back to the Celtic line-up as they beat Aberdeen 2-1 in their last Premiership clash. The Hoops’ £4.5m summer signing scored the opening goal at Pittodrie Stadium for his eighth in 11 appearances so far.
Rogic has also been a key player for Postecoglou over the early months of his time as Celtic manager. The 28-year-old has played in all 18 of the Bhoys’ fixtures across all competitions so far, starting 11. He has also scored once and offered three assists from central midfield.
Postecoglou shares Celtic delight
Rogic additionally started both of Australia’s World Cup qualifiers during the international break, while Furuhashi played an hour for Japan. Postecoglou was delighted that neither sustained an injury that could stop them featuring for Celtic at Motherwell on Saturday.
“The most important thing was to get through the break and get all the players back in one piece,” Postecoglou said. “It’s a relief, absolutely, because the last international window wasn’t kind to us to say the least.
“I was watching the Australia game in Japan with many lit candles, saying the odd prayer now and again. Australia lost the game, but I was glad those guys came out of it unscathed.
“There’s no doubt I was delighted when Kyogo wasn’t in the Japan starting line-up. I was also quite happy seeing Tommy jog off with no issues. So, that was probably my biggest delight. They are okay… They are both fine and ready to go.”
Furuhashi and Rogic to start after avoiding injury?
Postecoglou will likely start Furuhashi at Motherwell, with the Celtic forward avoiding any injury while on international duty. The summer arrival from Vissel Kobe has started four of his five Premiership outings so far, only featuring from the bench for his debut at Hearts.
He has additionally scored four and offered one assist in the Scottish top-flight this season. Adding to three goals in four Europa League qualifiers, and a lively display in group stage defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. As he targets eclipsing Odsonne Edouard’s 2020/21 goal tally.
