Speaking on The Athletic’s YouTube channel, Olivier Giroud has been speaking about Mikel Arteta and his management at Arsenal.

Giroud never got the chance to play under Arteta. He was sold to Chelsea back in 2018 almost two years before the Spaniard was appointed as Arsenal boss.

Of course, they both know each other from their playing days and while Giroud has never played under the Gunners gaffer, he says he’s heard good things about his management.

Giroud gave his view on Arteta and shared what he’s heard about the Spaniard.

“One good thing is that he has time to improve and install his ideas. It hurts sometimes to see Arsenal in this position, because when I was there we were close to the top four. I think Mikel is a good manager but maybe he needs more support. I’ve heard good things about him. The problem is, you need time but also money — this is a huge part of success,” Giroud said.

Needs backing

Giroud will have heard these rave reviews from some of his former teammates, and it’s promising to hear that they’ve had good things to say about the manager.

Arsenal are in a period of transition at the moment, and while things seem to be on the up, as Giroud says, they need time and money to get back to the very top of English football.

Although performances on the pitch have been mixed, the fact that Giroud has heard good things about Arteta would indicate that he’s the right man to lead the London club forward.

Fingers crossed the gaffer gets the backing he needs from the board to build a squad that can once again compete for major honours.
