Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno has just said that Steven Bergwijn could be available to play against Newcastle United this weekend, as quoted in Football.London.
What’s the story?
Spurs will take on Newcastle away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday.
Ahead of the game, Spurs boss Nuno has said that there is a chance that Netherlands international winger Bergwijn could be back in action.
The 24-year-old winger suffered a foot injury during the international break in September.
Bergwijn’s last game for Spurs was against Rennes in the Europa Conference League.
Nuno told Football.London about Bergwijn (1:39pm, October 15, 2021): “He joined us yesterday.
“He is totally integrated in the group. He did well. No pain and now about getting back to his highest levels of fitness.”
When asked if Bergwijn could play against Newcastle, Nuno said: “We don’t know. First of all, everybody together. Then we’ll see.”
Encouraging news for Tottenham fans
Spurs are not exactly in great form at the moment, and Nuno’s update on Bergwijn is certainly encouraging.
Now, we do not think that Nuno will include the winger in the starting lineup against Newcastle.
It is too early.
However, even having the Netherlands international – who earns £73,077 per week as salary, according to Spotrac – on the bench is very encouraging.
It will enhance Tottenham’s chances of winning against Newcastle at St. James’ Park.
Bergwijn has pace, can run at defenders, puts in good crosses and shoots well.
The Dutchman could be a handful for the Newcastle defenders as a substitute.
