Frank McParland has already began working with Newcastle United, according to a report.
Shortly after Saudi Public Investment Fund completed their £300 million takeover at the club, iNews reported that they were lining up an appointment of McParland.
And 90 Min has now reported that the 62-year-old is already actively working with Newcastle, albeit unofficially.
The report adds that the Magpies haven’t yet signed him up to a contract but that the new owners expect him to play a ‘big part’ in the project, with the former Liverpool scout likely to come on board as an advisor and to help with academy production.
Campos still a go?
McParland has a lot of experience with regards to signing players and at Rangers, he was their head of recruitment for a time.
But it doesn’t look like he’ll have that role at Newcastle, which is good news.
That’s because it keeps a certain Luis Campos in play, the sporting director whose signings helped Monaco and Lille to Ligue 1 titles in recent years in spite of Paris Saint-Germain’s riches.
According to Sky Sports, the St James’s Park club are keen on hiring him to oversee the recruitment drive and that, if true, would be a massive appointment.
Campos has unearthed some serious players down the years – like Bernardo Silva, for instance – and although it might suggest that Newcastle won’t be going gung-ho with regards their new-found wealth, it does indicate a more measured approach.
That’s less exciting for a fanbase with dreams of bringing football’s biggest and brightest to the North East, but it’s more sensible for now.
