Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows about Mauro Icardi amid links to Newcastle United.

Newcastle are under new ownership, and inevitably, that has led to plenty of speculation around new arrivals at the Tyneside club.

It seems as though everyone is being linked with a move to United from Kylian Mbappe to James Tarkowski, and Icardi is no different.

The Argentine would be a logical signing for the Magpies. After all, he’s a quality player who isn’t getting much of a game at PSG, but according to Romano, he isn’t keen to leave Paris anytime soon.

What’s been said?

Romano delivered an update on Icardi.

“Talking about Icardi, I also heard this rumour because he’s not playing with PSG. So it’s complicated with him, but from what I’m told is that in the final week of the last window Juventus approached him when they lost Ronaldo, but Icardi is very happy in Paris and he doesn’t want to move. I asked about Newcastle and the answer was the same, Mauro is really happy with his family in Paris, he’s not planning on leaving the club in January, let’s see next summer, but in January, Icardi wants to stay. He’s very happy with the city too not just with the technical project. He has a big family with his wife, his daughters and everything, so it’s not easy for him to move and move every year,” Romano said.

Maybe next summer

Icardi isn’t open to moving away from Paris in January, which is completely understandable, but perhaps this is one Newcastle could revisit next summer.

Icardi is bound to get more and more frustrated with his lack of chances at PSG and if Newcastle are willing to offer him a similar financial package, then he could be convinced to swap Ligue 1 for the Premier League.

It will certainly be interesting to see what the future holds for Icardi and Newcastle.
