Roy Keane has claimed that reported Arsenal target Raheem Sterling has had a ‘bust-up’ with his manager Pep Guardiola, as he told ITV Sport.

Before Mikel Arteta left Manchester City for Arsenal, Sterling would have been considered one of the best players in the world, at the time.

But, since then, his form has gone downhill, although he was one of England’s best players at Euro 2020.

On the domestic circuit, not only has Sterling lost that goalscoring touch, but the minutes aren’t coming by on a regular basis either.

It doesn’t help when Guardiola signs Jack Grealish for £100 million in the summer to play out on the left – he has started every Premier League game, so far.

All of this doesn’t bode well for Sterling’s future at the Etihad, and whilst things are different for England, the out-spoken Keane thinks something has gone on behind-the-scenes.

“He (Southgate) is a big fan of Raheem,” said Keane. “He has always played him, whatever problems he has had at his club.

“He has huge confidence, Raheem. And why wouldn’t he? His stats are fantastic and he has never let (Southgate) down.

“He has definitely had some sort of bust-up with Pep, something has gone on. They bring Grealish in. But, when you work with top managers and so-called big clubs, that’s all part of the package.

“At 20 months, you are talking about his contract, that’s a long way away, just focus on your game and things will pan out for him because he is a quality player.”

Given Sterling’s current situation, it’s no surprise that his former coach is trying to lure him to the Emirates.

The ex-Liverpool academy product has a contract until 2023 at Man City and the Daily Star claim that Arsenal have put him on their transfer wishlist.

Whilst Arteta may have a strong relationship with the Englishman, and he is a London boy, it would be difficult to attract someone of Sterling’s quality to your club when you have no Champions League football to provide.

Unless, things take a dramatic turn for the better for the North London club this season.
