Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about Thiago Alcantara’s fitness.
The Spaniard has missed each of the Reds’ last two league games, and despite the fact there’s been an international break in between the Manchester City match and the clash with Watford, Thiago still isn’t fit.
Indeed, Klopp says that Thiago will probably need a little bit longer to get back to full fitness, stating that the 30-year-old is yet to train with the first team.
What’s been said?
Klopp gave an update on the midfielder’s fitness.
“Thiago needs probably a little bit longer, [he] was not in team training yet – that’s always not a good sign for starting the next game,” Klopp said.
“And the rest [of the] international [players], some are back, obviously some are not back yet. And we will see.”
Not the biggest blow
As much as we’re all hoping that Thiago is back strutting his stuff on the pitch soon, it has to be said that this isn’t the biggest blow in the world.
The emergence of Curtis Jones in recent weeks has been incredible to see, while Jordan Henderson will be available to play as well.
Fabinho won’t be back due to the fact he’s been away with Brazil, but even then, Liverpool have plenty of midfield depth with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Naby Keita ready to step in.
Thiago being out isn’t the best news Liverpool fans could receive, but in a game against Watford, it’s hard to imagine he’ll be missed too much.
