Leicester City are never under pressure to sell their star players. Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell are testament to that; they cost huge money when they left.

The Foxes are one of the best-run clubs in the Premier League. They have recruited well for years and never really bowed to pressure from perceivably ‘bigger’ clubs.

Leicester fans are used to seeing their players linked away. They’re maybe not used to seeing Newcastle being touted as a destination.

That’s the case now with Wesley Fofana after one of the more strange rumours emerged this week.

Newcastle interested in Fofana?

RMC Sport claim that Newcastle not only want to sign Fofana, but have made contact with his representatives.

It would be stranger if Newcastle weren’t admirers of Fofana. To put it simply, he is one of the best young centre backs in Europe.

Fofana excelled in his first Premier League campaign last season. Sadly, the Frenchman is out injured right now and will only be back in early 2022.

That’s maybe part of why this rumour seems strange; would one of Newcastle’s first targets be a currently-injured player?

It would also cost huge money to sign Fofana. Sure, Newcastle have that kind of cash now, but Leicester would maybe even want more than the Harry Maguire fee for Fofana.

Leicester fans react to Fofana speculation

Leicester fans have now been reacting on Twitter to the Fofana rumours, and they have laughed off Newcastle’s interest.

Some noted that Fofana’s dream is to play for Real Madrid, not Newcastle United.

Others laughed at the mere prospect of Fofana turning out for Newcastle, believing he will go elsewhere.

Fofana was also called ‘generational’, with Leicester fans fearing they will be ‘finished’ if he joins Newcastle.
