Some Liverpool fans on social media were rather shocked to hear that the club are reportedly interested in Torino’s Gleison Bremer.
Supporters argued that the club doesn’t need another centre-back. After all, they already have Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.
However, when you look at Bremer’s stats this season and his all-around performance, it’s not hard to see why the Reds want him.
The Brazilian is rated as the best centre-back in Serie A by WhoScored this season, and to be honest, he’s earned that rating.
Torino have conceded just seven goals so far this season, which is brilliant for a team of their stature, and Bremer has been their brick wall at the back.
The 24-year-old is averaging four interceptions per game, which is a higher tally than any other player in Serie A. While that number also trumps any player in the Premier League, even the likes of N’Golo Kante and Declan Rice who are considered amongst the best interceptors of the ball in world football.
Of course, it would be hard for Liverpool to find a spot for him in the team. After all, they are overloaded with talent at centre-back, but when a player this good is on the market, it’s hard to not be tempted to make a move for him.
Bremer looks like a ready-made star for Liverpool and it’s easy to see why Jurgen Klopp’s side are keen on the 24-year-old.
