Jack Wilshere has claimed that West Ham United’s Declan Rice is a ‘freak’ from a physical standpoint, as he told talkSPORT (14/10/21 at 6:50 am)

The current free-agent played alongside Rice during his brief years in West Ham colours and he would have seen his rise up, close and personal.

It could be argued that Rice is one of the best defensive-minded midfielders in the Premier League today.

He certainly showcased his worth at Euro 2020, when alongside Kalvin Phillips, he was one of the best players at the tournament.

Wilshere shared that Rice is only getting ‘better’ and he is a player that can ‘do anything’.

“He has got better every year,” said Wilshere. “He had a really good Euros, like he was one of England’s best players and he has taken that into this season.

“Technically, he is so good. When he gets into them positions, whether it’s his left foot or right foot, he’s got the opportunity to score because he can use both feet just as good.

“And he’s so fit. There’s not a problem with him getting into the box and then recovering into that defensive position because he’s a freak physically, he can do anything.”

Given the talents in Rice’s boots, his age and what he can go onto do, there will no doubt be some worry from the West Ham faithful that they might lose him.

The fact that the Hammers are on the rise themselves, in Europe and increasing their chances of winning trophies, then it should fend off any suitors.

Plus, the East London outfit are in a position where they can knock back any big-money offers, because they are sitting in a healthy position in the table.

But then again, with the individuals that sit in West Ham’s boardroom, that’s not that easy to say.
