Theo Walcott has claimed that his former Arsenal teammate Olivier Giroud is an ‘incredible’ player, as he told talkSPORT (12/10/21 at 8:45 am).
Giroud was speaking on the radio yesterday, where he was discussing his career, including his time at Arsenal.
Now in Southampton colours, Walcott was listening in and he texted in his admiration for the Frenchman.
The duo won numerous FA Cups together in North London, but that Premier League trophy always evaded them.
Both players admitted that was a ‘regret’, as Giroud praised his former teammate when he texted in about the striker.
“Incredible player to play with, he made by job easy,” said Walcott.
Giroud responded by saying: “Theo, my man. How are you, bro? I am still in touch with him.
“I felt that we had such good times together at Arsenal. I wish we could win the league, that’s my only regret from the Premier League, with Arsenal and Chelsea.
“I really enjoyed playing with him. He is such a top football player and also a great man.
“I think I play football for people to remember me as a good player, but also as a good person. And it’s amazing to meet these kind of people.”
Arsenal sold Giroud to Chelsea for a fee of £18 million in 2018 (Sky Sports) and that has to go down as a regret now.
Whilst Giroud didn’t win the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, he won the Europa League 12 months after leaving, including scoring in the final against none other than against Arsenal.
And then, in what turned out to be his final campaign in West London, the World Cup winner added the Champions League trophy to his cabinet.
It has been some career for Giroud, who is now donning the colours of AC Milan, and a player that has been hugely under appreciated during his time on the field.
