Newcastle United continue to be linked with some of the biggest names in football, and according to Christian Falk, they’re now keen on Chelsea striker Timo Werner.
Werner shares an agent with Fabian Schar, and apparently, Newcastle are keen on bringing him to St James’ Park in the near future, with Falk claiming they’ve been in touch with Werner’s agent for quite some time.
The German has been in the Premier League for just over a year, but he hasn’t had the best of times since joining Chelsea, scoring just seven league goals since arriving in England.
However, Alan Shearer believes that the striker could eventually become clinical, claiming that he likes the fact that he continues to get into good positions.
What’s been said?
Shearer was speaking about Werner on Match of the Day back in April.
“You know what I like about him, though? I like that he doesn’t seem fazed, he’s not bothered that people highlighted his missed chances this season,” Shearer said.
“That doesn’t seem to bother him.
“The secret is you keep getting in there, like he did, and eventually the goals will start flowing.”
Could be a star
Say what you will about Werner’s form over the past year, but the fact of the matter is that he’s proven he can score goals in other teams.
He hit 28 in his last Bundesliga season while he also has 21 goals for the German national team. This isn’t a bad footballer by any means.
At Chelsea things haven’t worked out for him, that’s for sure, but in a Newcastle side where he’d be the focal point of the attack there’s reason to believe he could shine.
