There was a shock transfer rumour from last weekend when it was reported that Arsenal want Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It was Arsenal who sold the player to the Reds in a £40 million deal four years ago.

But with the 28-year-old struggling for the most part since joining Liverpool, a return to North London has been touted.

Oxlade-Chamberlain left the Gunners as a wide player in pursuit of a midfield role at Anfield.

And although he did get games in this position originally, the minutes are drying up for the England international who has managed three Premier League starts in a year, despite being fit.

Even now, in the prime of his career, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s best position is virtually unknown, something Thierry Henry suggested when he originally left Arsenal in 2017.

The legendary French hitman, who is the North Londoners’ record goalscorer, hit out at the Liverpool man for comments shortly after leaving the Emirates.

He said on Sky Sports, via Goal: “I’ve been watching him for a very long time and I still don’t know what he’s good at.

“You can find out from all the players what they’re not good at but normally you know what they are good at. That’s one thing he needs to understand very soon. He needs to bring something to the table for someone to work with it.”

Is he right?

Well Henry was probably right at the time, yes, but now he’s definitely on the money and time has proven it.

The bottom line is that Oxlade-Chamberlain is extremely talented but the fact that he’s 28 and we’re still talking about how good he could be is a problem.

The former Arsenal winger had so much potential when he first arrived at the club but, for whatever reason, he hasn’t been able to deliver on it and re-signing him would be absolutely insane.
