Smash Mouth singer retires after rant video goes viral

Steve’s rep said in the statement that the singer was retiring to focus on his physical and mental health. However, many fans couldn’t stop thinking about his unhinged performance and chaotic rant at the October 9 concert.

Smash Mouth performed at the Big Sip festival in upstate New York on Saturday (Oct.9). During their performance, Steve was reportedly slurring his words, and at one point he allegedly threatened the audiences, while making some crude gestures.

The singer’s actions were caught on video by a TikTok user named Haley, who called it “chaotic.”

A source close to the band said, “This unfortunate recording has now been taken out of context and his ailments used against him to paint him as someone who he isn’t.”

The singer was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy eight years ago and has suffered from heart failure and acute Wernicke encephalopathy since. The latter condition has massively impacted his motor functions like speech and impaired his memory.

“Despite Steve’s best efforts to work through these ailments, he is heartbroken to share that it has become impossible for him to continue doing what he loves most, performing in front of the band’s millions of fans around the world,” the rep said.

Despite the singer’s retirement Smash Mouth will not be breaking up!
