It’s not often you see a manager signing one of his former teammates in football, but Mikel Arteta may be about to do just that at Arsenal.

Indeed, the Gunners have been linked with a January move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with The Sun reporting that the London club want to bring the midfielder in on an initial six-month loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

Arteta of course knows Oxlade-Chamberlain very well from their time playing together at Arsenal, and his previous comments on the midfielder tell you all you need to know about just how much he rates him.

What’s been said?

Arteta was speaking to Arsenal’s official website back in 2015 when he called Oxlade-Chamberlain one of the best talents he’s ever seen.

“[The goal was] unbelievable, but Alex can do that every week if he wants to,” Arteta told Arsenal Player. “He’s a terrific player, one of the best talents I’ve seen, and he’s got the world open for what he wants to do. It’s up to him,” Arteta said.

High praise

This is absolutely massive praise from Arteta.

The Spaniard played alongside the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla at Arsenal, so for him to call the Ox one of the best he’s ever seen shows just how much he adores him.

It’s no surprise to hear that Arsenal want Oxlade-Chamberlain back in January, and it wouldn’t shock us if Arteta managed to get the best out of his former teammate if he was to return to north London.
