Gus Poyet has claimed that he is ‘not so sure’ Nuno Espirito Santo will be given time at Tottenham, as he told talkSPORT (12/10/21 at 12:30 pm).

The former Chelsea and Spurs player shared that is a ‘problem’ because the Spurs boss needs ‘time’ to implement his style on the club.

After leaving Wolves in the summer, not many expected him to swap the dugout at Molineux for the one at Hotspur Way.

Spurs searched the market, and seemingly most of Italy, for Jose Mourinho’s replacement, but someone like Nuno wasn’t really spoken about initially, until the search for a new manager just dragged on and on.

And since his appointment, it has been a mixed start for the ex-goalkeeper, as Poyet shared his thoughts the new man in the Spurs hotseat.

“I think he needs time, Nuno,” said Poyet. “He needs time. He needs to know the inside of the club.

“He needs help from outside. He did very well with a system that he is probably trying to adapt at Tottenham. I am not sure he is going to go back to the back three.

On whether he will be given time: “I am not so sure. It’s a problem, especially if you want to make an input in your style of play.

“When I went to Sunderland, it was no time. It was results., so the identity next year. Brighton was different. But it depends what they are looking for.”

It has been an indifferent start for Nuno, at one point his side were flying high and sitting top of the Premier League table.

And then they were getting smacked from pillar to post in the North London derby and a lot of flak was coming the manager’s way.

Since then, they have reacted by progressing through to the next round of the League Cup and by beating Aston Villa in the Premier League.

But it just seems as though if the North London club continue to stagnate, then Nuno might find that the heat will only increase in the kitchen.
