Newcastle United continue to be linked with a host of new signings, with Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij the latest names suggested.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport claim that De Vrij is on Newcastle’s wish list alongside a host of other Serie A players.

De Vrij’s current Inter contract ends in the summer of 2023, meaning he is approaching the final 18 months of his deal.

The Dutchman turns 30 in February and may feel he has one last chance to land a big contract somewhere.

A solid centre back throughout his time at Feyenoord, Lazio and now Inter, De Vrij has made more than 400 club appearances in his career.

A key man for Inter since joining in 2018, De Vrij could be a real coup for Newcastle.

The Dutchman has been branded a ‘really great’ defender by Ronald Koeman, who coached him with the Dutch national team.

Having his experience, know-how and winning mentality would certainly appeal to Newcastle – after all, De Vrij won Serie A last season.

How much stock should we put into this?

The Italian media love linking English clubs with players anyway, but it has only been ramped up by Newcastle’s takeover.

Newcastle have money to spend, and the Italian press seem to think that the Magpies want half of Serie A.

De Vrij could be a great capture, and Newcastle do seem to be keen on adding big centre backs, but we would give this one a middling chance of being viable.
