Thousands of Snapchat users are reporting issues with the app today (October 13th).
Some say they are unable to send or receive messages, with many recieving an error message that says “check your connection”.
Others claim they have been logged out of their account and are unable to log back in.
What has happened to the app? Is Snapchat down? Let’s find out what’s happening and explore some ways to fix it.
Is Snapchat down?
At the time of writing this, Snapchat appears to be down for many users.
After recieving thousands of tweets Snapchat confirmed that they are aware of the issue on Twitter, writing:
“We’re aware that some Snapchatters are having issues using the app right now – hang tight, we’re looking into it!”
Problems started at around 12pm GMT and seem to be occurring for users in both the UK and the US who are unable to use their app properly.
Down Detector has had over 100,000 reports that the app isn’t working.
However, at the time of writing this, the reason for the outage is unclear, and it is unknown when the app will be fixed.
How to fix your app
Snapchat has already said it is looking into the issue, and is likely already working on a fix.
However, here are some things that might fix your app…
- Close the app and open it again.
First, try completely shutting down your app. On an iPhone, do this by swiping up on your homepage.
- Clear your cache.
Do this by heading to Settings > Account Actions > Clear Cache.
- Log out of the app.
Some users have reported that logging out of the app and then logging back in again has fixed their Snapchat.
- Turn your phone off.
It’s the oldest trick in the book, and sometimes all you’ve got to do is turn your phone off and on again.
- Delete your app.
You could also try deleting your app and then re-downloading it again from the App Store.
If your app still isn’t working, wait a few hours and try again later.
