Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher managed to keep a clean-sheet on his international debut for Ireland last night, yet plenty of fans were still left feeling very sorry for him at full-time.

The dream debut… or maybe not

Ireland strolled to a 4-0 win over Qatar yesterday evening, but Kelleher may secretly have been hoping for a slightly busier night’s work.

The Liverpool stopper barely had a save to make during the contest, meaning he wasn’t exactly able to show what he can do.

Kelleher did show some nice touches with the ball at his feet, but his shot stopping was not tested at all.

And plenty of fans felt sorry for the Liverpool youngster, as he was not able to showcase his full talents on the big occasion.

Another chance to impress?

With Kelleher looking to break into Ireland’s starting line-up he may actually have been better served if he could have been called into action more often.

Kelleher is currently competing with Gavin Bazunu to be Ireland’s number one.

The Liverpool man may at least have a chance to showcase his talents again at the weekend, when he could be slightly busier.

Liverpool are set to take on Watford at the weekend, and Kelleher is expected to start for Jurgen Klopp’s side as Alisson will return late from international duty.
