The saying in football is ‘never go back’, but it seems as though Arsenal are keen to ignore that old adage.

Indeed, just last week the Gunners announced that Jack Wilshere had returned to London Colney to train with his former club and continue his studies for his coaching badges.

As you can imagine, Arsenal fans were buzzing to see Wilshere back Arsenal colours, even if it was just in training.

However, if recent reports are to be believed, Arsenal could be eyeing up another return to north London that should have fans even more excited.

Indeed, the Gunners have been linked with a loan move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in January, and in our view, supporters should be incredibly excited about this.

Yes, Oxlade-Chamberlain has had his injury issues in recent years, but let’s not forget, when he’s fit and firing he’s amongst the best midfielders in the country – after all, he did play 30 league matches as Liverpool won the Premier League title in 2019/20.

Indeed, the Ox was an England regular before he was struck down with injury, and if he does join the Gunners on loan in January the timing couldn’t be much better.

Arsenal will be without Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey for a number of weeks in the new year as the pair head to the African Cup of Nations, and the Liverpool ace could be the perfect player to add some depth to the midfield during that period.

Much like Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain is a player with a strong affinity for Arsenal, and his return could give the fanbase a much-needed lift after what has been a tough 12 months for the north London club.

Wilshere’s return to the Gunners has already lifted spirits amongst Arsenal supporters, but if Oxlade-Chamberlain returns to play a part for his former side, fans will surely be over the moon.
